Library Endowed & Gifted Collections
The Doherty Library’s endowed and gifted collections reflect the generosity and vision of donors who have invested in the University’s academic mission. These specialized collections preserve unique resources, support teaching and research across a wide range of disciplines, and provide students, faculty, and scholars with access to materials that enrich learning and inspire discovery. Through these lasting gifts, each collection continues to strengthen the library’s role as a center for scholarship and intellectual exploration.
Allbritton Art Institute Collection
The Allbritton Art Collection, located on the second floor of Doherty Library in the West Wing, offers thousands of books dedicated to art and art history. The collection includes exhibition catalogs, art criticism, artist biographies, and works exploring artistic movements and the connections between art, politics, philosophy, architecture, literature, and science.

The Albert and Ethel Herzstein Collection
The Albert and Ethel Herzstein Collection is made possible through a generous donation of the Albert and Ethel Herzstein Charitable Foundation. The collection contains books and other resources which foster a deeper understanding of Judaism and promote interfaith relations. For more information, please click here.
Janice Gordon-Kelter Collection
Established in 2006 through the donation of the personal library of the late Dr. Janice Gordon-Kelter, former Dean of the Master in Liberal Arts Program at UST, this collection is dedicated primarily to Women in Culture and Society, Medieval Studies and British History. This collection is shelved throughout the library.
Dr. Gordon-Kelter began working at the University of St. Thomas in 1991, eventually becoming the Director and then Dean of the Master in Liberal Arts Program. As an administrator, educator, and advisor, she worked passionately as advocate for her students and the entire student body. The collection currently contains more than 1,000 books.
John O. Whitney - Readex Archive of Americana Collection
Thanks to the dedication of John O. Whitney, former board member at the University of St. Thomas, the Doherty library now has access to one of the world’s largest electronic collections of primary documents covering all facets of American history. The Archive of Americana Collection includes multiple collections that include a vast array of primary source documents on American history such as newspapers, government documents, ephemera, and more. L. Tuffly Ellis Endowed Collection
In 1997, the L. Tuffly Ellis Collection Endowed Fund was established to support the “Ellis Collection of Texas, the South and the Southwest” in the Doherty Library at the University of St. Thomas. This collection contains more than 1,100 titles and is housed behind the Circulation Desk on the 1st floor of the Doherty Library.
McFadden-Moran Collection for Irish Studies Research
Donated to the Doherty Library by University of St. Thomas board member Mr. Patrick J. Moran and the Moran family, this sizable collection of Irish primary source materials presents a record of Irish politics, history, and culture that primarily covers the 19th- and early 20th-centuries. Composed mainly of newspapers and government documents, the McFadden-Moran Collection for Irish Studies Research serves as a major resource for students, faculty, and researchers.

Peggy Shiffick Environmental Studies Collection
In 1996, the Peggy Shiffick Endowed Environmental Studies Collection in the Doherty Library was established to create a collection of material to support the Environmental Science and Studies Program at the University of St. Thomas. The Peggy Shiffick Endowed Environmental Studies Collection contains over 500 titles that cover a wide range of topics in the field. The items within the collection are shelved throughout the Doherty Library.
Sally S. Slick and William T. Slick Jr. Endowed Collection in Business Ethics
In 1996, the Sally S. Slick and William T. Slick Jr. endowed Collection in Business Ethics was established to create acollection of material in the Doherty Library to support the Center for Business Ethics and the Cullen Trust Endowed Chair in Business Ethics at the University of St. Thomas. The collection currently over a thousand print and electronic titles covering various topics related to professional ethics, corporate responsibility, and business ethics. Dr. Lee Williames & David Theis Collection
Composed of a variety of sources connected to the study of Russia and the Soviet Union, the Dr. Lee Williames & David Theis Collection collection includes government publications, newspapers, periodicals, pamphlets, and more, providing scholars access to one-of-a-kind primary source materials. While the collection focuses on Russian Studies and History, the materials within serve as an important resource for all the Liberal Arts curricula offered at the University of St. Thomas.

The Patrick Spann Greenwood Children's Collection & Endowment
The Patrick Spann Greenwood Children’s Collection & Endowment supports the children’s literature collection housed in the East Wing on the second floor of Doherty Library. The endowment continues to provide funding for the collection and helps support the library’s acquisition of print and electronic resources in the field of education.
