Research Success Center

The Research Success Center (RSC) is Doherty Library’s hub for personalized research support, information literacy, and academic success. Staffed by librarians, the RSC provides expert guidance to students, faculty, and staff throughout every stage of the research process—from first-year assignments to capstone projects and graduate-level scholarship.

Whether you’re just beginning a research assignment, refining a research question, or navigating complex scholarly resources, our librarians are here to help you build the skills and confidence needed for academic success.

How We Can Help

The Research Success Center offers:

  • One-on-one research consultations by appointment or walk-in
  • Research topic development and research question refinement
  • Literature review support
  • Guidance on developing effective search strategies
  • Assistance selecting databases and locating scholarly sources
  • Help navigating library resources and research tools
  • Information literacy coaching and research skills development
  • Research methodology support
  • Troubleshooting access to library resources
  • Referrals to other campus support services when appropriate

Our goal is not simply to help you find information—we help you become a more confident, efficient, and successful researcher.

Check In

When visiting the Research Success Center, students will be asked to check in using the Who’s Next kiosk on the iPad located at the entrance. During check-in, students can indicate whether they have a scheduled appointment or are visiting as a walk-in.

This information helps us better understand student needs, measure the impact of the Research Success Center, and continually improve our services to support student success.

Visit the Research Success Center

The Research Success Center is located in Room B03 in the basement of Doherty Library, placing research support in one of the library’s most active student spaces. The Center is designed to provide a welcoming, collaborative environment where students can receive individualized support while connecting with other academic success resources across campus.

Whether you have a quick question or need in-depth research assistance, we’re here to help.

Faculty & Staff Referrals

Faculty and staff are encouraged to connect students with the Research Success Center for research support at any stage of the research process.

Students may be referred by:

  • Creating a “Refer to Research Success Center” alert in Watermark
  • Contacting the Reference Department at reference@stthom.edu or 713-525-2188
  • Referring students directly to their Liaison Librarian for a research consultation
  • Sending students to the Research Success Center (Room B03) for walk-in assistance

Early referrals can help students develop stronger research skills, reduce frustration, and improve confidence before assignments become overwhelming.
