International admissions at UST provides personalized assistance, from verifying academic documents and meeting requirements. We believe in providing clear communication so all international students feel at ease as they embark on their educational journey. 

Who is this for: 

  • International admissions processes are for students seeking the Student Visa (F-1) to study in the United States. International students who are already in the United States would still follow the international admissions process.  
  • UST offers annual merit-based scholarships for eligible first-time bachelor’s degree seeking students- first year or transfer. Talk to your Admissions Counselor for more details. 


The UST International Application Process
 

  • Schedule to meeting with your International Admissions Counselor. You can reach them directly at intladmissions@stthom.edu.  
  • Submit the Free Online Application. Apply only at www.stthom.edu/apply , Common App, or ApplyTexas 
  • Send your TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo English Test results directly from the testing agency to UST (admissions@stthom.edu). These scores help demonstrate English proficiency for applicants whose first language is not English. 
  • Your essay (1-2 pages) is your opportunity to tell us your story. Choose from the Common App or ApplyTexas prompts or share why you are interested about studying at UST, what you plan to study, and how you will contribute to our community. 
  • Provide official transcripts from all secondary schools and any colleges or universities you have attended. All transcripts must be translated into English and evaluated by an approved credential evaluation service if issued outside of the U.S. (link to Intl Checklist here) 
  • Once admitted, international students will need to submit documentation to obtain an I-20 for an F-1 student visa. This includes a copy of your passport, proof of financial support, and other forms as requested by the Office of International Student & Scholar Services (ISSS). More information will follow after the admissions decision is rendered.  
  • Once admitted, your next step is to accept your offer and submit the required $200 enrollment deposit. Enrollment-related services, including advising and registration, cannot move forward until the deposit has been received.  
  • Stay informed by tracking your progress and uploading required documents in your Application Portal

GPA Requirements 

The GPA will be calculated by UST Admissions (out of a 4.0 scale) using English, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Foreign Language (if applicable) grades on your transcript.

The Admissions Process  

Test Optional Admissions  – UST is test optional. Students may apply with or without SAT/ACT scores. Applicants are evaluated based on high school coursework, GPA, essays, and extracurricular involvement. Choosing to apply without a test score will not disadvantage you in the admissions process.  

 

First Year Application Process 

  • Start your journey by completing a free application through our website, Common App, or ApplyTexas. When applying, you will also choose whether you would like to be reviewed with or without ACT or SAT test scores—it is your choice.  
  • We want to get to know you! Submit a personal essay (1–2 pages) that tells us why you are excited about UST, what you hope to study, and how you will make an impact as part of our community. This is your chance to let your personality, goals, and passions shine. 
  • Upload your unofficial high school transcripts so we can see the hard work you’ve put in over the years. 


PLEASE NOTE:
 An official transcript will be needed once a decision is rendered. 

  • If you would like, you can submit your test scores for consideration. UST accepts the SAT, ACT, and the Classical Learning Test.  
  • Stay on top of your application by logging into your Application Portal. There, you can track your progress, upload documents, and see updates in real time. 
  • Once admitted, your next step is to accept your offer and submit the required $200 enrollment deposit. Enrollment-related services, including advising and registration, cannot move forward until the deposit has been received.

Transferring from another university or community college? UST makes it easy and convenient to continue your academic journey. With one-on-one counseling, and numerous options to complete your degree, we are here to help you ease into campus life and achieve your personal and professional goals as a Celt. 

You are a transfer student if you: 

  • Are a student who earned 12 or more transferable hours of college credit after high school graduation (during fall/spring semester) and 
  • Are not a former UST undergraduate student* 


* Students who have inactive status and are in good standing and have not attended another institution will be required to complete an abbreviated re-admission process. The abbreviated application is available from the Office of Admissions. No application fee will be charged for re-admission. Click this link and scroll to the bottom for more information.  

Transfer Admission Requirements 

Transferable courses are college-level courses from regionally accredited colleges and universities. To determine admissibility, the Office of Admissions will calculate your cumulative GPA for all transferable college-level courses from all schools attended. For repeated courses, grades from all course attempts will be used for calculation of cumulative GPA.

Distinctive Information for Homeschool Students 

Individualized Transcript Review 
UST Admissions will evaluate your homeschool transcript (out of a 4.0 scale) using core academic subjects: English, Math, Science, and Social Studies. Course descriptions may be requested to better understand curriculum rigor. 

Curriculum Documentation 
Please submit a detailed transcript including course titles, grading scale, and date of completion. If available, include curriculum outlines or reading lists to support academic review. 

Demonstration of College Readiness 
Homeschool applicants are encouraged to submit SAT, ACT, or Classical Learning Test scores. While UST is test optional, scores can strengthen an application when traditional grading structures vary. Dual credit coursework is also welcome.

Pragmatic Studies Admissions Checklist

  • Submit the Psychoeducational Evaluation (FIE). 
  • Upload a current psychoeducational evaluation (Full and Individual Evaluation) completed by a qualified professional. This document helps the University determine appropriate academic accommodations and support services.  
  • Submit one recommendation letter from a teacher, counselor, administrator, or other professional who can speak to your academic abilities, character, and readiness for college success. 
  • Complete an interview with a member of the Pragmatic Studies Department. The interview provides an opportunity to discuss your educational goals, academic background, and interest in attending the University of St. Thomas.

The University of St. Thomas Bachelor of Science in Nursing program takes a holistic approach to nursing, educating nurses intellectually, physically, and spiritually. This in-person nursing program means you are able to take advantage of all of the support systems offered on our Montrose campus in Houston. As a three-year BSN program, it is ideal for highly motivated and ambitious students like you who want a hands-on, high quality nursing experience.

  • Complete your application through the our website, Common App, or ApplyTexas. Be sure to select “Transfer Student” so we can review your college coursework and place you on the right path toward your degree at UST. 
  • Show a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and minimum of 60 college level credit hours. 
    • 3.0 Science GPA (Anatomy & Physiology 1 & 2, Microbiology, and Math (College Algebra or Statistics)).  
  • Upload unofficial transcripts from all colleges and universities you’ve attended. If you’ve completed fewer than 24 college credit hours, you’ll also need to provide your high school transcript. 


Please note:
 An official transcript will be needed once a decision is rendered. 

  • Submit HESI A2 scores of 80% or above in each section. 
  • Required Sections: 
    • MATH 
    • A&P 
    • Reading Comprehension 
    • Grammar 
    • Vocabulary 
  • The HESI A2 exam must be scheduled outside of UST. The department ID for UST is 200020. 
  • As an alternative to the HESI A2, we accept TEAS scores of 78% or higher in each section. 


Please note:
If a student has taken these exams for another school, these scores will be accepted as long as all required sections were taken. 

  • Submission of a well-written (750 words) personal statement addressing the following: 
    • What life experiences and personal qualities will make you an outstanding nurse? 
    • Describe a situation or time when you practiced empathy and relate how you will apply it to nursing. 
    • What type of personal support system do you plan to have while completing your degree at UST?
