Join us for Constitution Day 2026 America at 250: A Republic, If We Can Keep it, celebrating the relaunch of the University of St. Thomas's Master of Public Policy & Administration Program. As the nation reflects on 250 years of self-government, UST will renew its commitment to forming leaders who serve the common good and strengthen civic life in their own communities. The evening will feature a lecture titled "A Republic, If We Can Keep It" by The Honorable Adam Laxalt, Nevada's former Attorney General, with an introduction by Dr. Kevin Stuart, Director of the MPPA Program.
Drawing on his experience as Nevada's Attorney General and his work in constitutional and appellate law, Laxalt will reflect on the proper role of government in a free society and the responsibilities citizens and public servants share in sustaining civic life. As the nation marks 250 years since its founding, his talk will consider what it takes to keep a republic — and how renewing our civic institutions begins, as the MPPA program itself teaches, close to home.
The event will be Wednesday, Sept. 16. A reception will open the event at 4:30 p.m. in the Center for Science and Health Professions atrium. The lecture will be at 6 p.m. in Jones Hall.
Speaker: The Honorable Adam Laxalt
The Honorable Adam Laxalt is a partner at Cooper & Kirk. He previously served as Nevada’s 33rd Attorney General. He graduated magna cum laude from Georgetown University and earned his J.D. from the Georgetown University Law Center. He is a U.S. Navy veteran and served in the Iraq War. Laxalt also served as an Assistant Professor of Law at the U.S. Naval Academy. Laxalt serves of the Board of Directors for the University of St. Thomas.
