From Death to Life: The Journey of the Saints
The Most Reverend Domenico Sorrentino’s lecture will explore how Saint Francis of Assisi’s Canticle of the Creatures (Canticle of the Sun) serves a recapitulation of the saint’s life. This celebrated and venerable hymn is not merely an ode to nature nor much less only a witness to an early form of the Italian language, but rather it testifies to the Saint Francis' love for God carried at length to the full extent of the created universe. The key to reading successfully this text is to be found in its final stanzas. The concepts of forgiveness, peace, and Sister Death allow the listeners to follow the Saint as he invites them to join him on his journey of praise to God. There is a special advantage today as one such fellow pilgrim: St. Carlo Acutis, is present. As this young saint was drawn to the charismatic poverello, one can join with St. Carlo as he leads the way to St. Francis and beyond to Christ.
