About the Program
Shape the International World
The Bachelor of Arts in International Studies at the University of St. Thomas prepares students to understand the political, economic, cultural, and social forces shaping an increasingly interconnected world. As global challenges become more complex—from geopolitical competition and international security to migration, trade, human rights, and sustainable development—the program equips students with the knowledge and analytical skills needed to engage thoughtfully and lead effectively in an international environment.
Our Program
Gain a Global Perspective
Grounded in the liberal arts tradition and the University’s Catholic intellectual tradition, the curriculum combines interdisciplinary study with a global perspective. Students examine world politics, international relations, comparative politics, international political economics, regional studies, intercultural communication, and international organizations while developing strong skills in critical thinking, research, writing, and cross-cultural communication. Throughout the program, students learn to evaluate international issues from multiple perspectives and to develop practical, ethical solutions to contemporary global challenges.
Tailor Your Academic Experience
The International Studies program offers the flexibility to pursue individual interests while building a strong interdisciplinary foundation. Students may complete the program as either a major or a minor and may also combine it with another field of study through a joint major.

Diplomacy and Strategic Affairs Leadership
Dr. Yao-Yuan Yeh
Dr. Yao-Yuan Yeh currently serves as a tenured professor and the Fayez Sarofim – Cullen Trust for Higher Education Endowed Chair in International Studies at University of St. Thomas, Houston. He is also the Chair of the Department of Political Science, International Studies, and Modern Languages, Director of the Master’s Program in Diplomacy and Strategic Affairs, Director of the Taiwan and East Asia Studies Program, and Director of the Mandarin Center jointly operated by the University of St. Thomas and Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages.
