About the Program
Multidisciplinary Graduate Education
The Master in Liberal Arts (MLA) at UST is a multidisciplinary graduate degree program in the Catholic tradition of the liberal arts. The MLA is designed to deepen and enrich students’ knowledge of the liberal arts. The program offers a variety of concentration areas in the humanities, fine arts, and social sciences. Classes are taught by UST’s outstanding faculty and are available in a variety of formats, from fully in-person to fully online.
A New Option
Classical Training for Classical Educators
Our new MLA in Classical Education is especially tailored to teachers in classical education schools and in other classical education settings. The program includes six required core courses: two in pedagogy and four in the Great Works of the Western Tradition. These courses are all available online. The remainder of the degree plan varies according to the choice of Path. The Interdisciplinary Path adds 12 hours of electives. The Single-Discipline Path adds 18 hours in a single subject—to prepare students to teach dual credit, AP, and undergraduate lower-division courses in that subject.
Prestige with Purpose
Flexibility in Learning
The MLA is distinctive for its interdisciplinary approach, which allows students to focus on a particular area of concentration while still gaining exposure to other fields of study in the liberal arts. It offers students flexibility in course selection across the concentrations. You can add a concentration in a variety of subject areas including:
- Applied Music
- Art History
- Classical Education
- Creative Writing
- Drama
- Education
- English
- History
- Interdisciplinary Studies
- International Studies
- Irish Studies
- Philosophy
- Political Science
- Spanish
- Theology
