Ryan Michael Miller

Core Fellow in Philosophy

Ryan Miller studies the relationship between autonomy and dependence (“metaphysical emergence”) in complex physical, computational, and social systems, applying insights from Aristotle and Aquinas to quantum mechanics and Artificial Intelligence. He previously taught Philosophy of AI at the City University of New York and the Center for AI Safety and Philosophy of Physics at the University of Geneva. Before returning to graduate school in philosophy, Ryan was a Technical Operations Manager at Trip Advisor and a Summer of Code Fellow at Google.
