About the Center
UST's Gateway to the World
Our International Studies and Modern Languages Department allows students to have immersive experience in international relations, diplomacy, cultural exchange, and languages. We offer courses in International Studies, Politics, Business, Law and other related fields. Additionally, we offer language courses in French, Spanish and Mandarin. Finally, we offer a series of events for our students and broader international community. Some of the events include our Distinguished Diplomat Program Luncheons, biennial Distinguished Diplomat Endowed Lecture Series, Lunch and Learns, I-Fest, annual Young Diplomat Summer Camp for high school students, and panel discussions concerning topical international related questions. Our program will prepare students for a career in diplomacy, education, business, and management while remaining true to the holistic and ethical vision and standards of the University of St. Thomas.

With our program, everything happens within one department. Working with your adviser, you’ll be able to tailor your degree. When we write the curriculum, we’re writing it with the flow of the degree in mind. The courses speak to each other. Faculty members know where you’ve been and where you’re going. Everyone moves in a common direction.
In most international studies programs, you’ll take a set number of courses in Political Science, History, Economics, etc. And they’re all separate experiences developed separately from each other that only come together on a degree plan.

You’ll also have the chance to grow professionally through internships and presenting at prestigious conferences. Students have present at Southwest Social Science Association, Western Social Science Association, Latin American Studies Association, and Southwest Conference on Asian Studies and have interned with the State Department.
