David Squires is an Assistant Professor of Philosophy at the University of St. Thomas, Houston. He earned his PhD from the University of Notre Dame’s Department of Philosophy. He has master’s degrees in Early Christian Studies and Medieval Studies from Notre Dame’s Department of Classics and Medieval Institute. His philosophical interests are wide-ranging. His primary research interests are in ancient and medieval philosophy—especially the philosophy of nature and metaphysics—but he also has interests in contemporary analytic metaphysics. In addition to his research, he has been the principal instructor of various undergraduate courses in ancient philosophy, medieval philosophy, introduction to philosophy, and ethics at UST and Notre Dame. He has also taught various graduate courses in the Aristotelian tradition for UST’s Center for Thomistic Studies. He was awarded the Kaneb Center for Teaching and Learning’s Outstanding Teaching Award in 2018 for his ancient and medieval philosophy course, and has been nominated many times for the St. Thomas Aquinas Excellence Award in Teaching at UST. Outside of the classroom, he runs two Greek groups—a grammar group and a reading group—for graduate students in the Center for Thomistic Studies, takes his motorcycle for a spin around Houston (properly geared, of course!), and enjoys good coffee and a novel in the company of his wife and two cats.
