Thomas P. Harmon is Professor of Theology and Director of Honors Program Special Projects. He is Principal Investigator of Educating for Liberty, a grant-funded program supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities at the University of St. Thomas. He is author of The Universal Way of Salvation in the Thought of Augustine (Bloomsbury/T&T Clark) and the co-editor of Augustine and Frontiers of Pluralism (Routledge) and Wisdom and the Renewal of Catholic Theology (Wipf and Stock/Pickwick).

He is currently working on his next monograph project, The Education of the Will in Augustine’s De libero arbitrio, and another co-edited volume, The Cambridge Companion to the Seven Deadly Sins (contracted with Cambridge University Press for delivery in 2028). His research areas are St. Augustine, Theology and Political Philosophy, Theology of St. Thomas Aquinas, Catholicism and Literature, and Theology and Media Ecology.

At UST, he has served as division dean of the Core and Centers for Excellence, director of two Master’s programs, and interim chair of the Theology department. He has taught 35 distinct courses across three institutions at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, including interdisciplinary courses in literature, art, film, philosophy, and political theory. He also writes regularly in the popular arena, with articles at First Things, Public Discourse, America: The Jesuit Review, What We Need Now, The American Conservative, Modern Age, and Catholic World Report.
