Integrated Theological Study
Theology is a vital part of the core curriculum at the University of St. Thomas, serving to reinforce its Catholic Identity and embodying the principles of the Catholic Intellectual Tradition. As the only Newman Guide college with a focus on historical theology, UST offers a unique undergraduate program that also includes expertise in sacred scripture, systematic theology, and moral theology.
The Bachelor of Arts in Theology emphasizes a cohesive understanding of theology. By fostering competency in key areas of Catholicism and honing research methods, the Theology major plays a crucial role in integrating faith and reason within a liberal arts framework. David P. Deavel, Ph.D.
Under the leadership of Department Chair Dr. David P. Deavel, the Theology Department approaches theological study as a deep reflection and inquiry in Scripture and Tradition. His work reflects that a solid grounding in historical theology keeps new theologians faithful to the Magisterium, steeped in Church Tradition amid exploration, and ordered to contemplation in all intellectual pursuits.

Dr. Eric A. Mabry is the Director of Graduate Theology programs and fellow of the core here at the University of St. Thomas (Houston, TX). He has a decade worth of teaching experience and has designed or taught over two dozen different courses, delivered in multiple iterations and modalities.

What types of things will I learn in theology?
Students learn theological skills such as biblical exegesis; engage with important figures from the Church Fathers to the medieval masters and the modern giants; and learn how to think about the Trinity, Christology, the Sacraments, moral theology, Catholic education, and more. The goal is a both a broad and deep understanding of historical theology.
